The 2013 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello is an attractive and decidedly exotic wine. Hard candy, kirsch, wild flowers, and sweet spice give the 2013 striking inner perfume. I find a slight element of sweetness distracting and also out of character with the personality of the year, but, at the same time, there is no question the 2013 represents a significant improvement over some of the earlier vintages of this wine.

The 2013 Barolo Riserva Bussia Vigna Colonnello offers a very unique bouquet, and I'm not sure it is entirely likable. There is an element of ripe fruit and dried cherry followed by cola, grassy herb and toasted spice. I tasted the wine unfinished, before its commercial release, so the jury is out on where this wine is headed from this point out.
An intriguing, lifted nose with watermelon, boysenberries, lilacs, sweet plums and sour cherries. Medium-bodied with some good, sturdy tannins, bright acidity and an orange-laden finish. Drink from 2021.
