The 2009 Merlot Filip is dark, rich and voluptuous to the core, all signatures of this site. Mocha, espresso, savory herbs, licorice and sweet floral notes meld together in a resonant, beautifully expressive Merlot loaded with character. As always, the Filip is more open and approachable young than the Buri. It will be even better in another few years.

In 2009 Pontoni will likely not bottle a Calvari, but he is much more enthusiastic about the Merlots, both of which are fabulous. His 2009 Merlot Filip is ripe, juicy and totally convincing in its soft, enveloping fruit.
