Tasting notes
Strikingly expressive and fragrant aromas of violets, rose petals, spices and red cherries introduce the 2016 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots, a medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny wine, its melting tannins entirely concealed in a succulent core of fruit, concluding with a long, saline finish. It's one of the more open, immediate premiers crus in the cellar. Lachaux observes that he wants people who open his bottles to be driven to drink them by “the desire to discover in the mouth what you have on the nose,” and with this wine, he has very much succeeded.

The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Aux Reignots 1er Cru comes from a tiny 0.2-ha parcel. It has a vivacious and perfumed bouquet, damp earth and black stewed tea developing with time. The palate is resplendent with raspberry and cranberry fruit, refined with edgy tannin and an exceedingly sustained finish that lasts for more than 60 seconds. The nobility of this Premier Cru, just above La Romanée, really shines through.
(the crop level here was a normal 36 hectoliters per hectare; 100% vendange entier ): Medium red. Complex, inviting scents of red berries, spices and earth. Seamless and easygoing, with its pliant red fruit flavors coming across as tangy and suave. Finishes broad, spicy and long, with very refined tannins that are totally buffered by the wine's strong material. This very suave Vosne wine stands out in this group for its generosity of texture and mellowness.
