Tasting notes
The 2012 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Fretille has, what you might describe a “minimalist” nose. This is not intended pejoratively, but rather, you have to dunk your beak into the glass to discern the understated scents of dried white flowers, granite and smoke. The palate is very well-balanced with good weight and balance. The oak is nicely integrated here, though it probably needs another year to fully integrate. Delicious. Importer: no US importer but available through several merchants in the UK.

Smells much riper than the village wine and has a lovely creamy spiciness that makes you want to linger before you move on to put the wine in your mouth. Not as rich on the palate as I expected but bright and sophisticated. (JH)
