The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru has a very high-toned bouquet of black cherries, cassis and blueberry, a little monotone and more winemaking than wine. The palate is sweet on the entry, over-extracted and lacking tension. The almost viscous, cassis and marmalade finish needs more delineation and freshness. So-so. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Tank sample. Mid cherry red. Smells ripe and sweet like very ripe cherries. Apparently has had very little sulphur added and I wonder if the air has started to have some effect here as it seems less fresh on the nose than some. Chewy and fresher on the palate with plenty of fruit. (JH)
