Light cherry red. Notably stemmy in its fresh fruit aroma. Almost vegetal. Light, zesty, a little insubstantial but balanced overall. A slight bitterness on the finish because of that green note. (JH)

The 2015 Santenay 1er Cru Clos de Tavannes was more closed for business compared to the red Chassagnes, though it opens nicely with raspberry and crushed strawberry aromas, just a touch of iris and incense emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, quite firm in the mouth with a touch of iodine, plenty of grip on the marine-tinged finish. Pour with a hearty dish - it wears its heart on its sleeve.
