Score 95/100 · Drink 2020-2040, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Sep 2019

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum contains 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc. It's deep ruby with wonderful aromas of laurel leaf, beef drippings, prosciutto, star anise, fenugreek, crème de cassis and crushed black cherries with dried flowers and a sanguine/iron streak. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers that Ramey lushness, fully fruited, spiced and rounded in the mouth with wonderfully ripe, fine-grained tannins and good freshness, finishing very long and layered. This seems to have only just shed its baby fat. 675 cases were made.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum is deep, powerful and expressive, yet also has plenty of near and medium-term appeal. Iron, smoke and a host of ferrous notes wrap around a core of dark fruit, with gorgeous aromatic overtones from the inclusion of 25% Cabernet Franc. Wild flowers, pomegranate and floral/savory notes add tons of nuance on the bright, punchy finish. This is a fabulous, super-distinctive wine from David Ramey.

(a blend of 75% cabernet sauvignon and 25% cabernet franc): Inky ruby. Intensely perfumed scents of dark berries and cherry-vanilla, with exotic floral and Indian spice notes building with air. Pliant blackberry and cherry compote flavors convey excellent depth and show alluring sweetness and energy. Supple, smoky and broad on the powerful finish, with lingering notes of bitter cherry and licorice pastille.

Another drop-dead gorgeous wine, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum flows across the palate with a huge core of super-ripe black fruit. Melted road tar, licorice, smoke and violets develop in the glass, adding layers of complexity and nuance. The soft contours and terrific overall balance suggest the 2012 will offer a long drinking window of pure drinking pleasure. As always, the Annum is the ripest and most obvious of the Ramey Cabernets. The style is ripe and voluptuous to the core.
