Simple cherry fruit with a light spiciness on the finish. True to type on the palate: light, soft, simple fruity flavour profile. Balanced in a very soft and supple way. Not showing much in the way of development. (RH)

The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge comes from 40-year old vines in three parcels close to Clos de Vougeot. It has a fresh blackcurrant and wild strawberry-scented bouquet with fine delineation. You might think there was a little stem addition here, but there is none. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin and bright red fruit, with pleasing structure on the finish. This is as good a Bourgogne Rouge as you will find in 2016.
