Tasting notes
The 2015 Chardonnay Block 6 is a reminder of how well Chardonnay thrives in Central Otago. It has a beautiful, lively nose with citrus lemon and white flower scents, almost Chassagne-like in style. There is impressive body and weight to this Chardonnay that wants to be noticed. It has presence. It has a superb spine of acidity, building wonderfully to a poised and quite persistent finish. Excellent. Tasted at the Amos Bursary charity dinner at 67 Pall Mall.

10% new oak. Made very classically. Just slightly richer than the 2017 but very crisp and delineated. Almost Riesling-like! Very rewarding fruit. Still very chewy, but I’m sure it will evolve delightfully. (JR)
The 2015 Block 6 Chardonnay I sampled was deeper in color and duller/flatter than I would have expected from this wine. Having consulted the technical notes, I do not think this is the intended style of the wine and suspect it is suffering from a certain level of oxidation. I will therefore reserve judgement until I have the opportunity to taste another sample. For the record, this wine is sealed with a screw cap.
Initiallly shows more oak and less fruit on the nose than the Block 2. Lightly smoky to add complexity. On the palate, powerful, intense, and driving to a very long finish. A little bit of heat here but the weight of the fruit can take it and the finish is fresh and long. Smart Chardonnay that needs a little more time to mesh. (JH)
