The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Village, Charles Lachaux's maiden vintage, includes around 35% whole cluster, the first vintage to include stems. It has a slightly savoury bouquet, touches of field mushroom, freshly tilled earth and a touch of truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine depth, slightly lactic towards the finish and certainly without the delineation of more recent vintages. Drink now.

Very ripe strawberry and mocha aromas are leavened by pepper and spice elements. Supple and sweet but a bit tart-edged and clenched, perhaps beginning to shut down in the bottle. Boasts good texture and weight but the 2013 version is more elegant.

Fragrant and floral. Delicate on the palate, and veering dangerously close to being thin. Subtle, suppressed palate. Doesn’t leave a very strong impression. (RH)
