Tasting notes
Readers looking for an amazing generic Barolo should check out Scavino's saturated garnet-colored 1997 Barolo. It offers a marvelous bouquet of Chinese black tea, vanilla, kirsch, and jammy currants. Full-bodied, powerful, unctuously-textured, and admirably concentrated, it is a remarkable achievement for a generic Barolo. Do not overlook it in your rush to purchase Scavino's single vineyard wines. Anticipated maturity: now-2012. Good saturated dark red. Aromatic nose of cherry, rose petal and licorice; quite vibrant for the vintage. Firm, sappy and fresh, with nicely delineated red berry and floral flavors. Enticing ripe acids and harmonious tannins will not get in the way of this wine early appeal. Already quite delicious.
