Tasting notes
Readers will remember that I admired the 2019 Fleurie last year, and that hasn't changed on reacquaintance. Bursting with scents of raspberries, orange rind, rose petals, spices and potpourri, it's medium to full-bodied, perfumed and fine boned, with lively acids and an enveloping core of succulent fruit framed by powdery tannins. It's a vintage that will delight purists.

Brilliant violet. Powerful, mineral-tinged red and blue fruit and floral pastille scents acquire a spicy nuance and a hint of licorice with air. Gently sweet and broad on the palate, offering boysenberry, cherry cola and spicecake flavors that firm up steadily through the back half. Finishes smooth, sappy and long, with repeating spiciness and harmonious tannins adding gentle closing grip. (JR)
