The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru has a fragrant bouquet with lifted brambly red fruit and just a faint whisky-like tincture loitering off-stage, well defined with assiduous use of whole bunch. This gains complexity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, vibrating red cherry and redcurrant notes with a liberal sprinkling of white pepper and clove. Linear and in some ways for this vineyard quite strict and slightly bitter, yet there is something utterly absorbing about it. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Richebourg Grand Cru comprises of two barrels this year (one new, one 2-year-old). It has a beautifully-defined bouquet, very pure and intense, easily the most concentrated of all Grivot’s cuvées. Baked cherries, bergamot and a touch of bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, focused with a pliant finish that lingers long in the mouth, leaving a saline residue that urges you to take another sip. Proper Richebourg!
