The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru perhaps has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Grivot’s Premier Crus: graphite-infused red fruit, touches of forest floor, very precise and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-sculpted tannins. There is unerring symmetry here and whilst it may miss a bit of substance on the finish, this may well be addressed by the time it finishes its élevage. Superb.

This is aromatically similar to the Beaux Monts though with less green tea influence. There is better volume and richness, if less minerality, to the bigger-bodied and more powerful medium weight plus flavors that deliver outstanding length on the balanced and impressively complex finale. As is often the case chez Grivot, this is the best of their extensive range of 1ers. One to definitely search out
