Score 95/100 · Drink 2028-2042, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2022

There are a scant 300 bottles of the 2020 Côte Rôtie Oenotheque, which comes from the Fongeant lieu-dit and was aged close to four years in barrel. It's less marked by its élevage than the 2018 and has a more classic bouquet of spiced red and black fruits, smoked meats, saddle leather, exotic flowers, and hints of iron. Rich, full-bodied, and structured, it has building, firm tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish. This powerful, meaty, bloody Côte Rôtie needs to be forgotten for at least 5-7 years, and it should evolve nicely for 20+ years.

The 2020 Cote Rotie Champon's is a ripe, purple raspberry-scented wine, with hints of dried spices and crushed stone. Medium to full-bodied, it boasts a rich, velvety mouthfeel and a long, concentrated finish. Aged in 30% new oak (400-liter barrels), it's a ripe, lush effort that should drink well for more than a decade.
