The 2021 Corton Les Grandes Lolières Grand Cru is more reserved compared to its peers. It mainly features red fruit with rose petals and crushed stone, quite pure, and with time it reveals satisfying delineation. There is evidence of more new oak compared to others, and that still needs to be subsumed. The palate is well balanced with a bright citrus-fresh entry. Red cherry and raspberry fruit dovetail into a graphite-tinged second half where I notice some attenuation, perhaps a little drier than its peers. Fine but serious, hence my score. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Corton Les Grandes Lolières Grand Cru, matured in two-thirds new oak, has a lovely, open-knit and expressive bouquet with fragrant red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and rose petal scents - very seductive and more Côte de Nuits in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Fresh and vibrant, the oak is neatly integrated with a slightly candied finish. Perhaps a little more "modern" in style, yet this is, undeniably, deftly crafted.

0.3 ha (0.74 acre). Bright mid ruby. Red cherry, with redcurrants and wild strawberries. Greater concentration than the Aloxe-Corton Coutière, and cranking up the volume on the finish. Clean, bright, juicy with freshness. Not the overwhelmingly firm Cortons of yore. Open, ripe, but it will surely close a little. (MH)
