Sourced from the portion of the appellation around Mauves and Tournon, the 2020 Saint-Joseph Les Granilites is a strong effort, with bold aromas of blueberries and boysenberries accented by strands of resinous herbs, a dusting of crushed stone and a sprinkling of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, ripe and concentrated, it even adds some licorice notes on the long, silky finish.

Leading off the Saint Josephs, the 2020 Saint Joseph Les Granilites is brilliant and even has some upside. Black cherries, cassis, violets, and peppery, gamey nuances give way to a medium to full-bodied, balanced 2020 that's going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and drink fabulously well through 2035. It shows the richer, concentrated style of the vintage yet stays fresh and lively. This cuvée was all destemmed and was brought up in equal parts concrete tanks and used demi-muids. It might be the finest vintage I've tasted.

100% Syrah. Granilites is combination of granite and limestone soils/rock. Less acidic than straight granite. Vinified in concrete, 75% spent 10 months in burgundian oak, 25% in concrete. You can sense the concrete on both nose and palate. Lovely sweetness of dark black fruit. Powerful but also fresh in character and long in flavour. Distinguished and profound. (AWH)

100% Marsanne. Floral, violet aromatics (usually a descriptive reserved for reds). Zesty and juicy on the palate but with a reserve of fruit. Well balanced. Good length. (JL)
