These are Van Canneyt’s oldest vines, planted circa 1910, and the resulting wine is vivid and bright – a wine in high definition. It’s divinely fresh, with a long palate laden with bright and dainty raspberry and strawberry fruit. But alongside this is a savoury, saline twist – making the mouth water and balancing the sweetness of the fruit. With seamless tannins, the long, lush finish is lifted by peony perfume.

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a strange nose that I personally find malodorous, very sweet 'n sour with a little volatile acidity. The palate is light with tart cherry fruit, but the finish is severely undernourished and green around the edges. It does come back with aeration, though it never really gels. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a pure and quite sensual bouquet with more complexity and fruité than the Beaumonts. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and linear with a slightly candied and persistent finish. This is one of the best 2021s from Hudelot-Noëllat.
