Clove spice with redcurrant and smoked meat. Also violet floral scent – this is overdelivering for a village-level wine from this tricky vintage. The acid is high, the body is on the lighter side of Gevrey, but the flavour intensity and clarity are exactly what you would hope for. (RH)

The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a slightly less complex bouquet than the Morey Village, pretty but without the same joie-de-vivre . The palate is medium-bodied with a tangy opening, powdery in texture, a dash of white pepper and allspice towards the finish. Fine length. Promising.
This is also relatively elegant and cool with its combination of wild red cherry, sauvage and discreet spice whiffs. The precise and almost lilting middleweight flavors possess a lovely sense of tension while displaying fine length on the youthfully austere and balanced finale. This could arguably use a bit better depth, but more should develop with a few years of keeping.
Tank sample. Mid ruby. Bright red fruits, cherry, strawberry, redcurrants. Medium-bodied, with fresh acidity and balanced chalky tannins. Lovely length and persistence. Retains a tonic character despite the plum fruits. Fresh and gourmand. (MH)
