Although not cruising at the same high altitude as the 2022, the 2021 Cornas La Geynale shines in the context of this challenging vintage. Earthy subtleties emerge from the glass, complemented by crushed rocks, sour cherry, cedar, leafy undertones and even some grapefruit. Medium-bodied, layered and refreshing, the 2021 can be approached while waiting for the 2022 to come around.

The clear standout is the 2021 Cornas La Geynale, a classic, old school-styled beauty offering meaty, iron-laced red and black fruits, medium body, building tannins, good mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's up with the crème de la crème of the vintage.

Cask sample. Tasted blind. Attractive, perfumed nose – rose petal, violet. A fresh and lively palate packed full of energy with a core of dark fruits, sandalwood and firm, chewy tannins at present. A nice saline note as well as earthy spice. Attractive and well made. (AC)
