Score 17/20 · Drink 2024-2034, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2023

Produced from 120-year-old vines in the Las Villegas vineyard, mainly from the higher (530–575 m) part of the vineyard facing east-south-east, as well as a small parcel of more north-facing vines. Sandy soil atop very hard bedrock. Moderate and subtle with a dry finish. Light but not unattractive bitterness on the end. Rich and long. (JR)

The 2020 Ultreia Valtuille is truly amazing and more so next to the unusual 2019. This is floral, expressive, fresh and balanced, with incredible elegance. There's a lot of precision here, they picked on exactly the right date, removed the white grapes, and the wine matured in barrique for five months and then in 1,000-liter oak foudre. The fine tannins show the finesse of the sandy soils. It's even a notch above the already other worldly 2018. Possibly the finest Ultreia Valtuille ever, with a moderate 12.7% alcohol. Bravo! 3,200 bottles produced.
