Full bottle 1,459 g. Biodynamic certification by respekt-BIODYN. Organic wine. Aulerde was first mentioned by name in records as early as 1380. This is their warmest site, where the grapes ripen early. Heavy clayish marl with minor portions of loess-loam and limestone, while the subsoil consists of yellow and gravelly, sandy clay. Vines are nearly 70 years old and densely planted. Pure, deeply fruited with both citrus and a riper apricot note but also a minerally Riesling aroma with the herbs and smokiness of spontaneous ferment that adds a more savoury side to this intense, full-flavoured citrusy wine. There’s a fruit sweetness here even though it is technically trocken (dry). All in balance even though it is utterly mouth-watering. (JH)

AP number 16 20. Focused nose. Juicy and quite refined. Pungent too. Very complete. (JR)

Deep, dark and full of mystery, but with wonderfully ripe mirabelle fruit. What energy and earthy depth at the very long finish. Clearly the best vintage of this wine so far! From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Aulerde Riesling GG is enormously chalky and flinty on the rich and spicy yet pure, refreshing, deep and fruity nose. Silky textured, fresh and elegant on the palate, this is a complex, structured, very elegant and juicy but linear and persistently mineral dry Riesling with remarkable purity and tension. The tension and grip of the 2019s offer impressive proof that Wittmann more and more manages to make the Aulerde a real Grosses Gewächs. However, the distance to the exceptional Westhofener 1G is smaller than to the Morstein GG.
