Tasting notes
One of the icon wines of Piedmont, the 2018 Barolo Ginestra Ciabot Mentin offers dazzling complexity with a fine filigree of aromas that starts with black and purple fruit and continues to rusty nail, candied orange peel and licorice. It culminates with pretty aromatic lift that comes in the form of dried mint and toasted aniseed.

The 2018 Barolo Ciabot Mentin is washed out, lacking in depth and flavor. Ginestra is a site with tremendous personality. Sadly, there is little, if any, of that here. There is just no substance.
Monforte d'Alba. A little subdued and closed compared with Pajana. Great purity on the nose and with beautifully integrated oak and savoury-sweet cherry fruit. Compact fruit palate with lots of juice and grainy tannins built like a house. Fantastic length and focus and energy. (WS)
