Tasting notes
Bright ruby-red. High-pitched mineral- and spice-accented aromas of fresh red berries and candied lavender, with a hint of smoked meat in the background. Shows excellent clarity on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and spicecake flavors and a touch of allspice. The fine-grained finish is nicely shaped by gently chewy, harmonious tannins.

The 2012 Fleurie Les Moriers comes from eight hectares of 60-year-old vines and undergoes semi-carbonic maceration. It offers much more in the way of fruit concentration, with Morello and raspberries leaping from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with good structure: raspberry and black currant notes, a subtle earthiness evolving toward the masculine finish. This is a thoughtful Fleurie. Drink now-2019. Exciting mineral streak cuts through the vibrant fruit. Dry finish, thoroughly French! No fun without food but lovely with fairly light dishes and saucisson, Should age well. (JR)
