Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Oct 2022

This is the only Folatières bottling from Jadot in 2021 – with the Héritiers parcel of En la Richarde declassified due to the tiny volumes. This is a real contrast to the Chalumaux, much more open and expressive at this youthful stage. Aromas of delicate white blossom, baking spice, peachy fruit, citrus pith and chalk leap out of the glass. On the palate it’s round with a gorgeously smooth texture, rolling around the mouth – checked by a long and flinty, saline finish that leaves the mouth-watering.

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru does not have the mineralité or energy of Chartron's Folatières: more floral and actually more Meursault-like in style. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, lively with a touch of lemongrass and spiciness more pronounced than the Chartron, although it feels more forward and does not possess the same degree of sophistication or nuance. Still, it will drink well over the next decade, possibly more. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru has a backward nose that demands coaxing, eventually revealing Granny Smiths, pear and petrichor aromas. The palate is very harmonious with a lovely spine of acidity. It's delicately spiced with a vivacious and quite persistent finish. This is a very commendable Folatières that will age with style.
