2019 Meursault Les Vireuils

Tasting notes
The 2019 Meursault Les Vireuils has a pretty bouquet with orchard fruit, hints of apricot and just a touch of almond coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with an edgy opening, quite sharp at first, orange zest and a touch of tangerine. A citric finish just needs a little more length. This will develop with bottle age but I would afford it 3 to 4 years in the cellar.

Notes of pear, peach, fresh bread, nutmeg and mandarin orange introduce Roulot's 2019 Meursault Vireuils, a medium to full-bodied, racy and chiseled wine that combines ripe fruit with tangy acids in a vintage-typical marriage. This is quite rich for a young Vireuils, but I suspect it will tighten up during another winter on the lees.

Mid slope thus cooler than the sites that supply the straight Meursault. The last parcels to be harvested. Picked 12 September. Rented vines. A portion goes to his own Jean-Marc Roulot négociant enterprise. Tank sample. Serious stuff on the nose. Sweet and juicy on the palate. I wondered whether the acid was a bit low but in fact it tastes this way because the alcohol is high. (JR)
