Tasting notes
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Champgain 1er Cru has quite a generous nose of Golden Delicious apples and flecks of almond and white chocolate; the oak is present but not overwhelming. The palate is crisp on the entry and lightly spiced, offering flavors of orange peel and green apple, nicely judged acidity and satisfying weight and length, though it does not deliver the complexity of the top wines in the appellation. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

About the producer

Having established Domaine des Comtes Lafon as one of the finest addresses in Burgundy, Dominique Lafon set up an eponymous négociant business in 2008. The vines are all farmed by the Lafon team and the wines generally leaner than those of Comtes Lafon, with less new oak.
