Tasting notes
The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru has a well-defined nose with orchard fruit, cooking apple and light petrichor scents. This feels nicely focused, and the oak is well-integrated. The palate has commendable weight. An open and forward Puligny, some fatness on the mid-palate does detract from tension and nervosité. A light tang of marmalade pops up on the oily finish. It is pleasurable, even though, given its evolution at this early juncture, I am not entirely convinced about its relative longevity. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru is perhaps outflanked by the Folatières on this occasion. Aromatic on the nose with wild peach and apple scents, touch of crushed limestone, the palate has a slight creaminess that detracts from its tension. There is lovely purity, yet the Folatières and Les Nosroyes really articulate the terroir.
