Score 96/100 · Drink 2023-2032, Eric Guido, Vinous, Jan 2021

The 2019 Ribolla Gialla Pettarin is an understated beauty that draws you close to the glass with a display of dusty young peach, mango, dried flowers and crushed stone. It’s silky and pliant in feel with a savory, almost-salty display of apples and pears. There’s a richness and density to the 2019 that tempts the imagination, as its structure and girth can be felt through the finale, just begging for a short stay in the cellar to reveal all of its charms. All of that said, there’s still plenty of energy here to allow an early peek into its evolution. As an experiment, the 2019 Pettarin was produced with about 30% botrytis-affected fruit, up from the usual 15-20% in most vintages. I’d say the experiment was successful, as this is a gorgeous young wine.
