Tasting notes
The 2017 Tinto, the estate flagship, is a field blend from old vines (90+ years) aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak (the rest second use). It comes in at 14% alcohol. Not quite bottled when seen, this was out of barrel and the final blend. It will be released in October. A beautiful Estate Tinto, this is an elegant and fresh red in this big vintage. The subtle beginning shouldn't fool you, though. This is a muscular Tinto that has a tight and gripping finish. It's not fleshy, jammy or sweet, and it finishes very dry. Too unevolved at the moment, it is a little hard to read. It has plenty of potential, but it will need a couple of years in the bottle to show its stuff. The acidity will then preserve it—it should age well.
