Score 89/100 · Drink 1969-2025, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2021

Bursting with aromas of plummy fruit, dark chocolate and rich forest floor, the 1959 Bourgogne Rouge from Thomas Bassot is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and gourmand, with melting tannins cloaked in an enveloping core of fruit. A textbook example of this distinctive vintage, it's still drinking beautifully, and I'm happy to have a few more bottles.
