The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with a touch of grapefruit mixed with wax resin scents. Not quite as sophisticated as Bachelet-Monnot's Les Referts. Returning after 20 minutes, the nose doesn't develop as I was hoping it would. The palate is balanced with a ripe and "sunny" opening. Light honey and nectarine notes are smooth in texture. The 2020 is seductive and easygoing on the finish. However, it doesn't fully deliver the terroir expression of the best wines in this flight. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

(Outstanding)<br /> There is a trace of phenolic character to the fresh and ripe aromas of citrus confit, pear, poached apple and just sliced fennel. The dense, powerful and tautly muscular flavors possess an abundance of sappy dry extract that helps to buffer the impressively long finale. Like several wines in the range, this could use better depth but more should develop if allowed a few years of bottle aging.
Excellent deep mid lemon yellow. More backward bouquet, more vivacity. Powerful but has retained freshness. More greengage than yellow plum, more evident acidity, again a very powerful wine that is really going to need time in bottle. Tasted: November 2021
