The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru shows a lot of reduction on the nose, but there is plenty of fruit, and it becomes slightly peppery with time in the glass. Mercurial, possibly some Brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red fruit, grippy tannins and well-judged acidity. There's a sense of cohesion towards the finish. The 2020 manages to overcome the warmth of the vintage with style. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru contains whole bunch coming from the older vines planted in 1944. I admire the vitality on the nose here, taut and fresh with crushed strawberry and cranberry scents, plenty of mineralité and tension. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, fine structure, slightly chalky towards the finish with a persistent aftertaste. Excellent.
(from a .72 ha parcel on the Vosne side in the middle against the southern wall). Very dense if reticent aromas only grudgingly offer up their notes of cassis, poached plum, pungent earth and an interesting hint of smoked meat. The succulent and rounded larger-bodied flavors also possess focused power and excellent punch on the moderately rustic and robust finale. This bold effort will also require at least some forbearance. (91-94)/2032+
