The 2018 Gran Enemigo Agrelo Single Vineyard comes from a vineyard by the Catena winery, from deep clay soils irrigated only once. The vineyard tends to produce very regular wines that cushion the effects of the vintage and have moderate alcohol (this has 13.5%), good restraint and very good freshness. At Agrelo, you always get spices, clove and herbs, berries and flowers, and the élevage provides some toasted and smoky undertones. This is tasty and has very fine tannins. It's mostly Cabernet Franc, mentioned on the label, but it also contains 15% Malbec that matured in an ancient oak foudre for 15 months. 7,200 bottles were filled July 2019.

The 2018 Cabernet Franc Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard from Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, contains 15% Malbec, also from Luján de Cuyo and was aged for 14 months. Purple in the glass. The intense, intricate aromatic profile features hints of herb, mint and mild ashy notes accompanied by ripe blackcurrant and bell pepper notes. On the palate, it’s compact with sharp clay tannins, a refined texture, intense flavor, a juicy flow and a long-lasting finish. Right now, the tannins still hold sway but it has an elegant structure.

Fresh raspberries, boysenberries, blueberries, pine needles, thyme, sandalwood and cloves on the nose. Medium-bodied with a very fine, precise tannin frame. Focused, compact and still so youthful. More mineral and dried-spice notes on the finish. Still tightly wound. Try after 2023.
