Scented as if it was a slate perfume, the 2013 Marienburg Falkenlay Riesling trocken GG opens very clear, fresh and pure on the nose displaying spicy/rocky as well as herbal aromas. On the palate this full-bodied, straightforward, tightly woven 13% alcohol Riesling is piquant and racy, very pure and salty, especially in the long finish. Until now, this stringent wine baby does not indicate a sensual vein, but nevertheless causes salivation that makes it another bone-dry Riesling for Vikings and those who do not fear acidity or minerality or purity. Folks, this is bone-dry and drying stuff!

Golden colour with greenish tinge. The Falkenlay appears to represent the estate’s concession to disciples of the fruitier school of Grosse Gewächse. Although not totally without the customary element of minerality, its main focus revolves around a generous offering of mirabelle, lime and tangerine. I would not call it sweet, but it seems a little softer than the Fahrlay. Substance and depth are never in doubt. (MS)
