Grapefruit, lemon, crushed rocks and white flowers jump from the glass in the 2013 Virginie de Valandraud Blanc. A bright, focused white, the 2013 is built on energy and pure vibrancy. The style is more finely cut and chiseled than in the flagship Valandraud Blanc. I very much like the sense of tension here. The blend is Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Semillon.
About the producer
One of the first garage wines, Ch. Valandraud was created by Jean-Luc Thunevin – Saint-Emilion’s “bad boy”. Today the style of the wine is much more restrained, and officially classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate.
