Tasting notes
The 2019 Volnay Clos de la Caves has a more floral bouquet than the Volnay Village with touches of rose petal, hints of Morello cherry, wild strawberry and crushed stone. Impressive delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with nuanced tertiary notes, fine structure, taut and fresh with plenty of salinity on the finish. Excellent.

The 2019 Volnay Clos de la Cave is showing beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, peonies, rose petals and blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and enveloping, with melting tannins, lively acids and a vibrant core of bright, perfumed fruit, it concludes with a long, mineral finish.
From a revived steep vineyard with pebbles, sand and clay next to the cellar. Cask sample. Transparent crimson. Reticent nose before quite explosive fruit within a framework of very obvious tannins. One of the more youthful 2019s from the Côte de Beaune, whose finish is a little dry at the moment. (JR)
