Score 92/100 · Drink 2022-2034, Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, Sep 2022

The 2020 Les Bournais is a silky, seductive wine that retains a sense of shape despite its ripeness. The appellation of Montlouis has lots of clay-flint, but this is clay-chalk, and the result is a round yet focused style with fine length and line. The barrel fermentation and maturation (just 10% new) doesn't impart any flavor but adds to the roundness and gives support to the wine. Fully dry, you can expect ripe apple, pear and a gentle lick of sweet brioche on the medium-long length. Sourced from clay-limestone soil.
