Tasting notes
Donatsch produce three different quality level Pinot Noirs. The Passion Pinot Noir is their middle cuvée and is their equivalent to Premier Cru quality. The 2020 Passion is a charming and complete Pinot Noir, with bright, vibrant fruit (red cherries, burst raspberries, plum) accompanied by a peppery and savoury palate of fine and supple tannins and fresh acidity. The core of fruit becomes more marked and distinct on the long finish, as are the woodruff herbal notes that give added complexity. The crunchy, peppery sapidity is impeccably balanced by the smooth mouthfeel and satisfying weight and concentration. Very easy to enjoy now, though it will welcome cellaring for 5+ years.

Martin Donatsch's 2020 Pinot Noir Passion offers a pure but very fragrant bouquet of red fruits (mainly cherries) and chalky reduction. Silky, finessed and elegant on the palate, this is a light, finessed and refreshing Pinot with a grippy and still even greenish finish. This would be too sweet if there weren't this grip. Very elegant, refined and tensioned, with good length and a cleansing astringency. Needs time. Natural cork. Tasted in Zurich in February 2022.
