Tasted blind. First bottle volatile. Second bottle: deep blackish crimson. Fresher. A lively, distinctive style of Pomerol. Sleek and racy with a mineral element. Messy, short finish. (JR)

One of the ripest, biggest wines in the appellation, the 100% Merlot 2021 Enclos Tourmaline has darker plum and black cherry fruits as well as ample chocolate, leafy herb, and subtle yet classic Pomerol damp earth nuances. These all carry to a medium to full-bodied Pomerol with a lively, elegant mouthfeel, plenty of ripe fruit, and fine-grained tannins. It's a rock-solid 2021 that already offers pleasure yet should cruise for 10-12 years. Tasted twice with consistent notes.

Black cherries, flowers, black raspberries, and cocoa nuances are easy to find in the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, silky, polished, vibrant, and earthy, with a savory-edge to its sweet, red plum, cherry, herb-tinged finish. The production is quite small with about 175 cases produced this year. The wine is made from 100% Merlot. Drink from 2024-2040.

The 2021 Enclos Tourmaline is a little disjointed on the nose with a strong licorice scent. It needs more cohesion and vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, quite conservative in style and attenuating severely on the finish. This is a disappointing showing for this Pomerol.
