Tasting notes
Another one of the wines of the night! Drinking perfectly in the pocket, evolved but still so much life, red fruits, Strawberry, Cherry, Cranberry intwined with nicely integrated French oak. Lifted floral aromas just out of the glass the fruit purity and balance is off the charts.

From a coolish, late-ripening vintage, the brilliant ruby-colored 2010 Pinot Noir Malans Unique opens highly delicate on the nose and comes back to the seductive Pinot style of the vintage trio of 2004, 2005 and 2006. The bouquet is deep, pure and fresh as well as refined, despite its deepness and mineral/saline concentration. After a while, the nose opens up and becomes intense, offering ripe and concentrated dark cherry aromas. Full-bodied, intense and refined on the palate, this is a complex, tight and tensioned but also juicy Pinot with firm but ripe and crunchy tannins and lingering saline purity. This is possibly a sleeping giant, far too young to be served today but with great aging potential. There is a special energy and drive in this concentrated and utterly intense Pinot that is reminiscent of traditional Barolo due to the combination of silk, acidity and grasping tannins. 13.5% stated alcohol. Tasted from magnum in Zurich, April 2022.
