Tasting notes
From a little-known MGA site in the village of Barbaresco, the 2018 Barbaresco Secondine is a new submission from Prunotto. The wine opens to a lean consistency and a bright ruby color. Aromas of forest berry, cassis and sweet cranberry set the tone for a delicate and elegantly streamlined expression of Nebbiolo. The tannic power of the wine is also contained, and you are best off drinking it young.

Barbaresco. Pale ruby. A fragrant, concentrated raspberry and strawberry nose. Ripe supple, raspberry palate of great length and depth and immediately accessible. Grainy tannins on a long elegant, fragrant raspberry finish. Persistent and aromatic. Really pretty. (WS)
The 2018 Barbaresco Secondine is classy, polished and poised from the first taste. The Secondine is a wine of nobility and reserve, in other words super-classic Barbaresco. I find its introspective personality quite appealing. Rose petal, mint, sweet red cherry and blood orange open effortlessly with some coaxing. It's great to see Prunotto making wines of this level.
