The 2020 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne Casa Pepe is perfumed and wildly expressive, wafting up with a bouquet of dried violets, lavender, red plums and exotic spice. This possesses a gorgeous blend of vividly ripe red and blue fruits underscored by saline minerals. Vibrant acidity maintains unheralded energy within. The 2020 finishes structured yet beautifully balanced with a coating of fine tannins that frame the experience without slowing the 2020s momentum. While already available in European markets, Chiara De Iulis Pepe isn't sure when she will release the 2020s to overseas markets.

This is one of the more precious and fragile reds from Abruzzo, a mountainous region known for hearty flavors and abundantly full-bodied wines. The 2020 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo knocks that paradigm onto its side. The certified organic wine reveals subtle veils of wild berry fruit, rose, iron ore and blood orange. The wine shows a dark garnet color with finely polished tannins. Balanced acidity gives hot-vintage fruit an extra boost.
