Full screwcapped bottle 1,270 g. Picked 25 to 26 February. Lovely pungent, developed Riesling nose. Minerals and a very slight hint of that TDN compound associated with mature, ripe Riesling. Exciting wine that's now sleek and sophisticated. Not immensely long but with medium persistence. (JR)

There's lovely purity and aromatic energy to this old vine 2021 Riesling 1961 Block, which displays pear, green apple and white flower aromas, a wild ferment just adding a slight savory touch. Compact and focused, it boasts layers of minerality with subtle jasmine tea, lavender and citrus pith. A gentle grip gives heart and soul before fostering a long, more savory finish. Delightful and will get better.

The 2021 1961 Block Riesling leads with nettle-like acidity in the mouth, while the fruit holds a more placid court in the mid-palate. This is plump and pillowy, yet it has mineral definition and intensity of flavor. It's all on the back palate and lingering. Very good indeed. This has a conservative drinking window.

An Australian dry riesling that you really want to linger over. So much lemon blossom and lemon balm on the nose. Very subtle on the medium-bodied palate, with delicate citrus and white-nectarine fruit. It sounds like a contradiction, but this has a wonderfully filigree mouth-feel at the super-stony finish. From 60-year-old vines planted in 1961. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
