Tasting notes
The nose on the 2019 vintage of this Super Tuscan benchmark is soft and dense, with dark macerated berries in tension with green and black pepper, a hint of hibiscus or a cranberry tea, followed by tanned leather, wet soil and moss under a tree. The palate echoes the nose but adds more decadent notes of plum, fig and chocolate mousse, with tannins that feel like a good pair of loafers—supportive, but comfortable. It's long and harmonious.

This 2019 Marchese Antinori Riserva Chianti Classico Tenuta Tignanello has cooked fruit aromas of baked dark cherry, creamy spice and fresh earth. This wine is round, gentle and medium full bodied, with some cream and oak spice flavors. There is a lingering, refreshing acidity on the finish and sappy, green, black cherry fruit and a little crunchy grip to the tannins. It perhaps lacks some range of flavor in the middle but there is a very nice lingering freshness and chalky definition to the tannins.
Extremely perfumed and vivid, with fresh mushrooms, cherry stones and blackberries. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are long and complete. Fresh acidity. Tangy and vibrant. Lovely is the word. Drink or hold.
