2020 Volnay Clos des Santenots

The 2020 Volnay Clos des Santenots 1er Cru is completely de-stemmed. In the past, there has been two cuvées with the young vines forming the Santenots 1er Cru, but because the differences were neglible, the two were vinified and blended to create just one cuvée from this climat. I think that was a good decision. It has a lovely, very pure and refined bouquet with dark cherries, briary, crushed violet petals and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is ripe and generous on the entry, finely balanced, caressing in texture with a dash of white pepper towards the finish. There is something quite precocious about this Clos des Santenots but it manages to retain excellent freshness and poise. Recommended.
