Lots of red and black fruits, gunflint, violets, and candied orange notes emerge from the 2020 Clos De La Roche Grand Cru, another opulent, sexy 2020 showing the vintage's riper profile. Medium to full-bodied, layered, and concentrated on the palate, it has a wealth of baby fat and will benefit from bottle age. I would give bottles 3-4 years and it should drink nicely over the following 15+.

Cask sample. Deep ruby; solid, almost chiselled. Quite toasty on the finish. Not for tomorrow. (MH)

The 2020 Clos de le Roche Grand Cru has a ripe black cherry and boysenberry scented nose, again, rather heavy on the new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with wood tannins on the entry where I want to see more fruit. Moderate depth, quite structured on the finish, this Clos de la Roche will require 4-5 years in bottle for the oak to be subsumed.

Fine imperial purple colour, just 65% whole bunch but the bouquet is surprisingly smoky, though this does not continue on to the palate – might be the barrel. Still, there is a dry note. The fruit itself is soft and very ripe, with some black cherry notes, with good length and a balanced rather than trenchant acidity. Tasted: November 2021
