The 2020 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a more powerful nose: black fruit mixed with licorice, higher-toned, perhaps later picked than its peers. It's just missing a little definition by comparison. The palate is medium-bodied with plush, slightly toasty black fruit. It's a little powdery in texture with some warmth towards the soft finish. A little smudged, this Corton needs a little more backbone. This showed much better out of barrel, and other cuvées from this producer performed much better. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Corton-Rognet Grand Cru has a very well-delineated bouquet, very terroir-driven, crushed stone infusing the red fruit a touch of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh acidity, taut and crisp, gently building towards quite a complex finish with touches of Early Grey infusing the red fruit, cracked black pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent.
Jet black centre with crimson rim, a thick texture of dark plum fruit, a little bit of acidity behind. This also is a little more on the massive side than suits me. Bramble jelly to finish. 14.5% alcohol, which is not uncommon in 2020 Corton. Tasted: December 2021
