The 2016 Ségla has another bright and vivid bouquet with black fruit, black olive and light tobacco scents. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, fine delineation, silky-smooth, with a tensile and prolonged finish that urges you back for more. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

53% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Very dark crimson. A little note of balsam and this seems more youthful than the 2019 Ségla but just as well composed. Good, sophisticated winemaking at non-grand-vin prices … just a little angular. (JR)

Always a consistently impressive 2nd wine, one to to look out for and especially so in exceptional vintages like 2016. You'll find more marked acidity in Segla than Rauzan Ségla in the 2016, giving it a juicy mouthfeel, very much ready to enjoy, with blueberry and redcurrant fruits along with gourmet cocoa bean and liquorice notes. This wine was first introduced in the 1960s, rebranded in 1989, from plots planted on Terraces 3 and 5 (unlike the first wine, which is from largely Terrace 4).

The 2016 Ségla has a well-defined bouquet whose discreet rose petal and iris aromas lift the black cherry and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and quite lively and spicy, leading into a slightly metallic finish, which I suspect will ebb with time. There is good length here. An elegant and quite persistent Margaux. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.
