Gently softened by time, the 2013 Roero Mompissano still has quite a bit of tannic clout, although the flavors show a good deal of nuance and complexity in its sweet tobacco, cedar, dried cherry and mint flavors. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later, while the aromatics are expressive and before the fruit fades.

Canale. Tasted blind. Just mid ruby with broad orange rim. Soft and a tiny bit candied on the nose – seems to be developing fast. Plenty of acidity and rather gentle cherry fruit on the palate. Rather firm tannins for its elegant build, but with quite a fresh finish. (WS)
